Alexandra Reid

Alexandra Reid is nehiyaw and a member of maskêko-sâkahikan (Muskeg Lake Cree Nation) and was born and raised in Vancouver, within the unceded territory of Musqueam/Squamish/Tsleil-Waututh. Always with a lifelong interest in animals, she completed an undergraduate in animal biology (UBC 2003) and then attended the Western College of Veterinary Medicine (USask 2007), which is where she discovered the Canadian Wildlife Health Centre and pathology. She then moving to Guelph to complete a PhD in Comparative Pathology (2012). Upon graduating, she started working in the Veterinary Inspection Unit of the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Agribusiness as the Veterinary Scientist before moving to a Lead Veterinarian role in the Animal Health and Welfare Branch. As a minority person with multiple disabilities and through a career based with working with the public and moving across the country, she developed an interest in public-facing aspects of veterinary medicine as well as equality, diversity and inclusion.
