Eddie

Meet one of our long-time community members at CVO Toronto, Mr. Eddie Barnette, has never gone a day without the love of his animals. A survivor of over 30 years, Eddie lives with an AIDS diagnosis and is a two-time cancer survivor. Eddie credits his four cats and 165-pound therapy dog with helping him through some of life’s most difficult chapters.

As Eddie says, “My pets are my kids.” That bond has carried him through childhood autism, years of being non-verbal, and countless medical challenges. Through it all, his animals have offered constant, unconditional love—reminding him that even when the world feels dark, he is never truly alone.

Thanks to our Toronto regional team’s support, along with the Toronto Yonge Street Mission Veterinary Clinic and Toronto Humane Society, Eddie’s beloved companions have remained by his side. “Without my pets, I would not still be here,” he says.
