Kerry & Angel
At our clinic in May, we saw a very sweet little brown tabby cat named Angel. She had come to the clinic with her family, including her Mom, Kerry, and her two other feline housemates. Angel and the other cats were suffering from fleas and ear mites.
Angel in particular was not feeling well, she was dealing with Flea Allergy Dermatitis, an allergic reaction to fleas.
This causes the skin to become very itchy and inflamed, causing the cat to lick and chew a lot which can lead to infections. Angel had a few wounds on her body from chewing and licking at the really itchy spots. After examining her, Dr. Rea Marcelissen DVM and her team (Dr. Lynne Beiner DVM, Jill Cameron VT and Catherine Crandell VT) cleaned her ears and wounds, cut her nails, updated her vaccines and dewormed her. She was dewormed because cats with fleas are more likely to get tapeworms, which can spread to other cats and even other species.
Angel was treated for fleas and ear mites and sent with a few months of treatment. She was also treated with antibiotics and anti-inflammatories.
Angel’s housemates, were taken care of by Dr. Andrew Winterborn and his team (Karoline Fisher RVT, Hadley Bryce, Meghan Tiplady). They were also treated for fleas and ear mites, in addition to vaccinations and deworming.
In June, we saw the feline family back for their rechecks and booster shots. All three cats were doing much better, including Angel whose skin was healing well, her hair was growing back and she was starting to gain weight. As you can see from Dr. Rea's face, she was very excited by Angel’s improvement.
