Kira

Meet Kira! A lovely, 6-year-old with VERY itchy skin. Her people tried all they could to help her, with everything from treating for fleas to using the most soothing skin creams. When nothing worked, they turned to their caseworker and asked if we could help.

CVO Ottawa responded to the call!

We were very grateful to be able to reassure Kira’s mum that, thanks to your generosity, we could get Kira the help she needs. Donations to our Medical Fund allowed us to perform necessary and appropriate assessments of Kira’s condition. This included diagnostic tests for parasites, bacteria, and yeast & a fine needle aspirate of one particularly worrying lesion.

Some time has passed since Kira first came to us. She has now been diagnosed with skin allergies and has been supported by hypoallergenic food, generously donated by Royal Canin Canada, and Apoquel, a product by Zoetis that relieves the itching Kira feels due to her allergies.

After hearing Kira’s story, the wonderful team at Zoetis agreed to sponsor Kira for the year — a huge impact, considering she will need lifelong treatment. At Kira’s most recent check-up at one of our One Health clinics, Kira arrived looking like a different dog. She is much more content in her skin and her person is delighted!

Kira continues to heal and will receive a nail trim once her legs are less sore.
