Laura & Auset
Laura and her 6-year old canine best friend, Auset, have been attending CVO Toronto One Health events for almost all of Auset’s life.
Auset is Laura’s lifeline, supporting her with her anxiety. Even on the busy TTC, Auset’s priority is keeping Laura calm and feeling safe. They need each other. This is just one of the amazing human-animal bonds we support through our One Health services. As Laura has shared “[The CVO Toronto Team] does a lot for people that are low income. We get our [immunizations]. We get extra food. [The volunteers] are people that love animals. They’re not against us because we’re low income. They give us our flea control, to help our animals survive longer. They [treat us] like your friends, we laugh and giggle and have a lot of fun together. You come here knowing that the vets care and whoever steps forward isn’t going to judge you.
They help me along wiht what I can afford and what I can’t afford. They’re non-judgemental and your animals will enjoy it. No matter if they’re reactive or not, they take care of them and they won’t turn them away. They appreciate who you are, not what you can or can’t afford. It helps out a lot because you still have your animal in the end. You are not going to lose them... and that really helps. We feel our kids are being looked after.”
