Helping Pets Stay with the People Who Love Them

In 2025, the Ontario Veterinary College Class of 1975 approached Community Veterinary Outreach (CVO) with a special idea. As they prepared to celebrate their 50th year in practice and an upcoming reunion, the class wanted to make a lasting impact beyond their own careers. Having already endowed two scholarships for veterinary students, they turned their attention to helping pets across Canada.

Inspired by long-time Ottawa volunteer Dr. Mark Froimovitch, they partnered with CVO to create the LifeLine Fund— a growing source of hope for pets and people facing hard times.

What the LifeLine Fund Does

The LifeLine Fund invests in the well-being of pets whose owners are experiencing homelessness or housing insecurity. Investment income from the fund will cover urgent and preventive veterinary care for pets in need — care that can keep families together and change lives.

Urgent needs don’t always wait for our next One Health pop-up clinic. Sometimes, simple preventive care — like vaccines or a microchip — can make all the difference. At its heart, preventive care is life-saving care.

A Story of Hope

In Toronto, one of our shelter partners reached out about a woman who had fled a violent situation with her beloved cat. The cat, unneutered and unvaccinated, began spraying from stress — putting their stay at the shelter at risk.

Thanks to CVO’s Toronto team and the support of the LifeLine Fund, we covered his neuter, vaccines, and microchip. The pair stayed together, found housing, and began rebuilding their lives — proof that simple veterinary care can make a life-changing difference.

Why Your Support Matters

Every month, CVO receives more than 100 requests for urgent veterinary care, on top of serving over 2,000 pets each year. We help wherever funding allows — but demand continues to grow, especially in new and smaller regions.

After 22 years of service, we know the solution is sustainable funding that can support the most vulnerable for years to come. Our goal is to grow the LifeLine Fund to $2 million, ensuring consistent support for urgent care requests across Canada..
