Donner Canadian Foundation Grant Awarded to Fund Accessible Veterinary Care

21 years strong, with 11 locations providing vital care to pets and their people facing homelessness.

Community Veterinary Outreach has received funding from Donner Canadian Foundation (DCF) to support veterinary and human health care for homeless people and their pets. Recognizing CVO’s great work in the animal welfare sector, and its impact on people, the DCF has provided necessary support.

Continuing an ongoing relationship between the two organizations, the 2024-2025 DCF grant provides funding to support pop up veterinary and human health clinics planned across Canada for 2025, and cross-Canada activities to strengthen the organization’s capacity such as volunteer training initiatives. In the past year, CVO has hosted more than 50 pop up clinics across Canada to provide care to pets and people facing vulnerable housing situations with over 2000 pets and 1500 people served, more than doubling the number of people and pets served than previous years.

“Requests for help from people across the country are higher than ever with the cost of living and rate of homelessness rising,” says Dr. Melanie Barham, CEO of Community Veterinary Outreach.  “We are grateful to the Donner Canadian Foundation for their support of CVO and alignment in our visions to improve animal welfare for all pets in Canada.”
