Roxy, Monique, & Kevin

You have heard how we keep pets with the people who love them. Per our mission, we often do this through our One Health clinics and other programs. With the support of our amazing donors and volunteers, we do what we can to provide care, in-between our events.

John Howard Society of York Region’s Direct Accountability Program specifically supports our One Health clinics and other care provided in our York Region! Let’s read about the impact we can have when we work together:

Meet Monique and her son, Kevin, — and their precious and spirited, 12-year-old chihuahua Roxy!

Last November, our York Region team was contacted by Belinda’s Place, a shelter in Newmarket and one of our community partners. Without a home and in need of a place to stay, Roxy’s humans resided at the shelter, which was unable to keep Roxy in their housing program as well. Monique and Kevin were faced with an impossible choice, that all too many of our clients have to deal with — shelter or staying with their family (their animal!).

This is where CVO York Region swooped in: one of our amazing volunteers, RVT Lori, just so happened to LOVE aging, feisty chihuahuas. We facilitated Roxy to be fostered for 8 months until she could be reunited with her family in a place of their own!

Our veterinary volunteers examined Roxy before she went into foster, and she was found in PERFECT health! To continue the wonderful care that Monique and Kevin provide, we utilized a donation of Credelio from Elanco to keep Roxy flea and Tick free. We also were able to provide food for Roxy from Royal Canin Canada to keep her healthy, with nutritious and yummy food.

See! We are better together. Thank you to John Howard Society of York Region’s Direct Accountability Program, Elanco, Royal Canin Canada and our donors and outstanding volunteers.
